~ About the Author ~

Carol began the ~Smirk~ humor column in 2009 publishing it weekly in the Shawangunk Journal newspaper in Ulster County, NY where she garnered a readership of over 10,000 weekly subscribers over a four year period.  After developing the column with this publication she decided to use her illustration talents to add cartoons to each column in 2013 and was picked up by Hudson Valley Quarterlies owned by John Kidd becoming syndicated in all 6 of his publications with a readership of 78,000 people.  At the urging of her fan base Carol took their suggestions to make a collection of their favorite ~Smirk~ columns and cartoons and published them in a collection available in print and as an e-reader on Amazon.com.

Carol has had the burning desire to be a writer and artist since early childhood, working hard to achieve this life-long goal against many obstacles.  She was raised in the quiet town of Montgomery, New York with her parents and three siblings and is the single mother of two children.  After achieving her B.A. and M.A. from SUNY Fredonia in writing, she enjoyed life as a college professor teaching creative writing at the University of Hartford (CT) before returning to the Hudson Valley to raise her children..

~Smirk~ was a guest feature for several issues of the VanWyck Gazette in Beacon, NY and the Writers Round Up ezine based in Manhattan.   Recent articles featuring Carol as a new talent to watch were seen in the Writers Round Up ezine, and D&H Canvas Magazine in Sullivan County, NY.   Carol also appeared on public access TV to talk about her ~Smirk~ book on the “Keeping Country Strong” show hosted by Carl Richards and the “Mr. Phil Show” in the summer and fall of 2014.  Both of these shows have a 3 million viewership in the Hudson Valley and through-out Manhattan.  Mr. Phil has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel several times as well as America’s Got Talent.

Carol has written three screenplays entitled, “Party Girls”, “The Momz Club” and “Lizzie Borden”.  “Party Girls” placed as an “Honorable Mention” in the Top 20 out of 4,000 scripts at the 7th International Screenplay competition based in L.A.  The year after, “The Momz Club” placing in the Top 50 in the same competition.   See the “Other Writing Projects” page to see her current writing projects in the works.
